Indestructible Hulk #7 eBook Mark Waid Walt Simonson Reviews
This issue was not too bad. In addition to the fun of the Hulk and Thor teaming up against a bunch of frost giants (which I love – I much prefer the Hulk/Thor team rather than the Hulk/Thor rivalry), there is some degree of actual development on the part of Banner's lab assistants. It seems that one lab assistant has a terminal illness and is planning to commit suicide by Hulk. Apparently he didn't get the memo that the Hulk isn't an indiscriminate killer.
What is still lacking here is a real personality for our protagonist. Banner and the Hulk are pretty one-dimensional, and they shouldn't be when we're seven issues into this run. The Hulk does speak here, but only to say “Hulk smash!” and “Puny Banner!” Even the child-like Hulk usually has more range in dialogue than that, and the result is that the Hulk might as well still be mute.
The art is hit or miss here. I love Walt Simonson, but his style definitely clashes with the more realistic art that came before him. If you like Simonson's more modern style, you'll appreciate this. If not, the art alone is enough to put you off the book.
